Autumn Outdoor Party

The best part of entertaining is having enough freedom to relax, mingle and laugh with your guests. The next best part is making them feel warm and special, which is easily accomplished by inserting a “wow factor” into every occasion. My Simply different™ ideas for doing exactly that are described below. They can also be found in Lakestyle Entertaining, a feature column that appears in Lakestyle, a magazine celebrating life on the water. Click on the Lakestyle link for more information on this quarterly publication.

Table: Surprise your guests by setting a gorgeous table outside using a velvet quilt right off the bed. The rich fabric and extra length make it look lush and pretty. It is as easy to send to the cleaners or launder as a table cloth but much more impact.

The centerpiece: can be finished out by adding fresh apples pokes in with long toothpicks or kabob skewer broken to the correct length. Add a bag of nuts still in the shell strewn around the base of the centerpiece for added texture.

Setting the buffet: should be fun and have lots of heights and color from the surroundings and the food. Use anything for height. I used a plant stand for the brisket and a whimsical cake plate dripping with beads for the pumpkin bars.
